The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) created a Lifting Index Equation. This equation is designed to compare methods of lifting, and help to formulate ergonomic solutions to reduce physical stress associated with manual lifting.

 

Reducing weight in the form of liquid from trash prevents the primary cause of worker’s compensation and general liability claims in the US; back injuries and slip and fall.

 

Using the lifting index equation and the PourAway Recycling System in a series of simulations, we can confirm consistently positive safety benefits and risk reduction when using our products.

 

We conclude the separation of liquid from trash, and using an ergonomic grip, reduced the risk factor of the lifting task by +/- 50%. This risk reduction was based on an exercise where 1 1/2 gallons of liquid (approx 12 lbs) did not enter a large commercial trash bag. This trash bag filled with trash was removed from it’s can and placed in a collection bin.
